Mike Thompson is a shareholder in our Birmingham
office. He practices labor and employment and employee benefits law throughout Alabama
and the United States. Mike also advises businesses regarding strategic
concerns and compliance with immigration regulations and assists
businesses with obtaining employer sponsored visas for foreign workers. Prior
to returning home to Alabama in June 2000, Mike was associated with
the Houston, Texas office of Haynes and Boone, LLP where his practice
encompassed a broad range of civil litigation matters, including
the trial and defense of class actions, in federal and state court.
Mike's litigation experience includes the defense of a six-week class
action trial, involving 3,500 class members.
Mike grew up in the Springhill community near Troy,
Alabama. He attended Samford University on a Presidential Scholarship
and graduated, magna cum laude, with a degree in Public Administration.
During his tenure at Samford, Mike served in various leadership positions
including Chief Justice of the Student Government Association. Mike
received his law degree from Vanderbilt University School of Law
and is admitted to practice before the state and federal courts of
Alabama and Texas, the U.S. Supreme Court, as well as the U.S. Courts
of Appeals for the Fifth, Seventh and Eleventh Circuits.
Mike is a member of the Labor and Employment Sections
of the American Bar Association and the Alabama State Bar and is
a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association.
