Don Harrison is Senior Counsel with the labor and employment law firm of Lehr, Middlebrooks & Vreeland, P.C. Don’s practice is concentrated in workers’ compensation and related employment matters, such as claims for outrage and retaliatory discharge. Don has successfully defended a wide range of employers in the construction, utility, healthcare, manufacturing, mining, and retail industries, as well as government sector employers. Don’s workers’ compensation defense practice is pragmatic, cost effective, and aggressive in achieving his clients’ workers’ compensation goals.
In addition to workers’ compensation, Don maintains an active OSHA practice, including contesting OSHA citations on behalf of employers. Since January of 2010, Don has guided employers to more than $500,000.00 in reduced OSHA penalties. In addition, Don has obtained favorable payment plans on behalf of his clients. His efforts have resulted in the elimination or re-characterization of willful and serious citations.
Don closely monitors legislative and regulatory developments impacting workers’ compensation and OSHA. He recently drafted comments in opposition to an OSHA rule change on behalf of a 3000+ member association.
Don is a monthly contributor to the firm’s Employment Law Bulletin, and has contributed to the Alabama Employment Law Letter, the Alabama Employer’s Desk Manual, and Planet News Magazine.
Don is a member of the Alabama Workers’ Compensation Organization, Associated Builders and Contractors Alabama Chapter, and Labor and Employment Section of the Alabama State Bar. Don has been recognized by SuperLawyers as a Rising Star in workers’ compensation and labor and employment.
Don grew up in Dothan, Alabama, and received a Bachelor of Science from Auburn University. He received his law degree from The University of Alabama School of Law, where he was a member of the Bench and Bar Legal Honor Society. Following law school, Don served as law clerk for the Honorable Jack D. Carl and the Honorable Houston L. Brown of the Tenth Judicial Circuit of Alabama in Birmingham. Don and his wife, Ginny, reside in Birmingham with their children, Caroline and Payne. Don serves on the Administrative Board of Trinity United Methodist Church, and was a member of the Birmingham MS Leadership Class of 2010.
